PRODUCT MANAGER, MOSS PLASTIC PARTS, KIDLINGTON

I gained a degree in Industrial Design and Technology with the aspiration to become a Product Designer. However, during my Industrial Placement as a Packaging Designer I realised I wanted to develop my career in a broader direction where my role was more rounded in terms of product development and research, with the opportunity for greater communication across different departments.

I applied to join Moss Plastic Parts as a Product Manager after completing my Masters in Marketing and Management. I was considering opportunities in Marketing and Communications at the time, and it was after reading the Moss Product Manager job description I realised I had found a job that finally met my demands.

I have now been a Product Manager with Moss Plastic Parts for three years, joining the Filtrona Graduate Scheme in 2006. My role involves managing three of Moss' product sectors, chiefly caps and plugs for the protection of industrial components. The day to day job is extremely varied throughout the year, however, new product introductions are one of the key aspects of the role. This involves the research of new potential products and industries, through to ensuring these products are in stock and in the catalogue, ready for each new product launch. As a project manager it doesn't end there. Once new products are in stock and on the shelves, it remains our responsibility to make sure that the sales teams are fully trained and confident with the products they're selling. As part of the Moss commercial team, I work closely with all of the Moss european sites as well as the UK, answering questions on product pricing as well as on general market and product information.

The most enjoyable aspect of my job, and what I believe to be Filtrona's biggest offering to a graduate, is the environment I work within. It's both friendly and encouraging, which is certainly apparent in the approachability of colleagues throughout the company.
